A Brief History
Lenz was founded by former members of HYPED - the University of Edinburgh’s Hyperloop Team. While in HYPED, they focused on building high performance electric vehicles (known as pods), leading the UK’s top team to compete in three consecutive editions of the SpaceX Hyperloop Pod Competition II, III and IV, achieving a 6th place global ranking. Many see the Hyperloop as a niche idea that is far from implementation on a mass scale. However, after finishing university and leaving the team, it became apparent that much of the technology used in these systems - especially from the prototype pods developed by HYPED - could be applied to existing rail systems. This can provide reliability and performance benefits with no additional infrastructure.
From here, Lenz began its mission on developing a retrofit solution that could bring the ageing rail networks into the 21st century.
